Why Thanksgiving is My Favorite Holiday

happy thanksgivingMy favorite season is definitely fall here in Kentucky.

There is so much to do around this time of year! In Lexington, football is in full swing. October ushers in horse racing at Keeneland, and our famous Kentucky Wildcats basketball team is continuing a winning tradition!

Fall also means Thanksgiving. For me, Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday.

Here’s why I love Thanksgiving:

No gift-giving pressure. Every holiday has been so commercialized. I sometimes feel like I’m constantly shopping for a birthday, anniversary or some other holiday. That’s not so with turkey day. There is no pressure to rush out and find the perfect gift for anyone. All you really have to do is visit the local grocery for all the Thanksgiving trimmings.

It’s about family and friends. Thanksgiving is a holiday that’s sole purpose is to enjoy spending time together. If you think back to your best memories regarding Thanksgiving they probably involved one of your closest friends or family member. I know mine do. Some of the Thanksgivings that really stood out for me were the ones that I couldn’t be home with my family. That’s when I realized how important the holiday is for me.

It’s about reflection. I can’t write an article about Thanksgiving without mentioning the obvious. Being thankful. I’m so thankful for my life the way it has turned out. For my family, friends and career. Thanksgiving is a great time to sit back and think about what you are truly thankful for. Is it your family? Your career? Your health?

Some of you may be thankful for the fact that football will be on the whole weekend too! Whatever you do on turkey day, enjoy it with the people you care about most. It’s my favorite holiday.

I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
